FAQ

I am a new Hooper, will I be able to participate in all the workshops offered?
Most workshops offered are suitable for multi-levels. If you are comfortable waist hooping you will be able to participate in most of the workshops offered. Challenge yourself to a full immersion in the hooping community and expand your movement and hoop joy while gaining new skills, new connections, new perspectives and a huge sense of empowerment. Hoopcamp is also a go-at-your own pace event.

Will I be able to participate in all the workshops?

While there may be scheduling overlap between workshops, you will most certainly be able to take any of the offered workshops that you choose. Hoopcamp is a go-at-your own pace event and you can take as many classes as you like, or take a break to enjoy the pool, get a massage and allow yourself to really be in the flow.

What are the Check-in and Check-out times?

Check-in: Check-in for Hoopcamp officially begins on Friday, August 18th, 2017, at 12:00 noon and goes till 2:00 pm. Please contact us in advance if you are not able to arrive during that time.

Check-Out: All bags must be out of the cabins by 10:00 am on Monday, August 21st, 2017, although Hoopcamp activities will still be going until 1:00 pm. Departures will begin after the last workshop and all must exit the property by 4:00 pm.

What do I need to pack?

Sleeping bag & Pillow (unless you purchase the Linen Package for $25), sunscreen, a swim suit, a good sun hat and sunglasses, towel, personal toiletries, a reusable water bottle, a flashlight or headlamp, a camera and hoops! And of course whatever personal items you will need (medications, etc.) And don’t forget to bring some extra cash (most vendors accept credit cards) to shop at the Hoopcamp Marketplace – or treat yourself to a wonderful massage in the Redwoods.

What will the weather be like?

The weather is typically in the 70’s during the day and the 60’s or 50’s at night. Record highs/lows are in the 90s/40’s. Rain is not typical – although we can have surprise showers,  It’s might be smart to bring an umbrella and rain jacket, but we really recommend dressing in layers, so you can go from a cool coastal morning into a warm and sunny afternoon. If you are staying in the Glamping Canvas Tent Cabins bring warm sleeping gear and a warm hat just in case.

What about bugs?

Insects are usually not a problem, but may be somewhat prevalent at dawn or dusk. Bring insect repellent if you are concerned.

Can I park my car next to my cabin/camp spot?

You will NOT be able to park your car next to your camp or cabin spot. All attendees must park their cars in the main parking lot at Camp Campbell for the duration of the event. It will take about 5 minutes to walk through the event center to get to your parked car.

Can I get a massage at Hoopcamp?

Yes, there will be  massage therapists offering massage in the Redwood Amphitheater. You can sign up and pay for the massages directly with the therapists at Hoopcamp or by pre-arranging a time with them in advance (recommended).

Do you allow kids to attend?

Yes, children ages 8 plus are welcome to share in the Hoopcamp experience with you, though we ask that you accompany your child throughout the event and monitor their participation in all activities and workshops.

Can I bring my non-hooping partner?

Given that space and resources are limited and that Hoopcamp always sells out, we want to make as many spaces as possible available for people who are fully participating in Hoopcamp. If you really want to stay with a non-hooper we encourage you to purchase the off-site housing package or arrange your own accommodations. Our venue charges us for every person on the property and for all meals for anyone on site whether they participate in Hoopcamp or not. Contact us, however, if you have a special needs request.

Can I bring my dog or pet to Hoopcamp?

Dogs are not allowed on the Camp Campbell property unless they are a service dog with official papers. NO EXCEPTIONS, including in your car. Please make arrangements to have your pet pampered while you are having an amazing Hoopcamp experience.

What about smoking or fire spinning?

Due to the California drought and extremely high fire hazard, there is a zero tolerance smoking policy on the Camp Campbell property. There will, however, be a designated smoking area and this will be the only location smoking will be allowed. No smoking in cars, cabins or anywhere else on the property. There will also be no fire spinning and fire spinning fuels may not be stored in your cabin, car or elsewhere. The only campfires allowed are in the designated Camp Campbell Firepit areas and will be started and managed by staff – NO EXCEPTIONS.  Participants will be removed from the event without refund for smoking outside of the designated smoking area or playing with fire in any way.

How is the phone reception? Is there Wi-Fi?

Camp Campbell is nestled high amidst the Redwood trees in the Santa Cruz Mountains, thus cell reception can be spotty. There are a few places near the common areas and offices where cell reception is best. Access to the Camp Campbell Wifi is available with a password, though there is no access to indoor office space. The closest internet cafe is a 5 mile drive at a cafe in Boulder Creek, CA 95006.

RVs: There are only 5 spaces available for RV’s with no hook ups for mid-sized RV’s only, available until sold out. How many hoops should I bring?

Bring your favorite hoop, the one you like to learn new moves with. Bring the bigger hoop you love to rock out and flow with too. If you use twins or minis, bring those too! If you don’t want to travel with a hoop, we will have a limited number of workshop hoops available and there will also be many hoops for sale at the Hoopcamp marketplace.

When and where can I get coffee?!!

There is coffee with breakfast, of course, and if you need a pick-me-up at other times of the day there is unlimited hot coffee and tea available in the main dining area.  To limit the amount of garbage created, please bring your own water bottle and coffee mug.

What’s on the menu?

Camp Campbell’s menu is the most loved of all our Hoopcamp locations. They serve primarily healthy comfort food with vegetarian options. We have designed the menu to have a large, hearty breakfast, a lighter lunch, and a delicious dinner. Vegan and gluten free options will be available at all meals and we will do our best to accommodate any special dietary needs. (Make sure to submit your dietary needs and information on the registration form). No kitchen or cooking space is available. A wonderful health food store – New Leaf Market – is a short 5 mile drive from Camp Campbell. There is a small refrigerator for storage available on a first come, first serve basis. Please label all of your food items clearly. There will also be a big bin inside the dining area for you to put your personal food items in for safe storage. Do not store food items in tents.

I have a very special and sensitive diet and need to bring additional food?

If you need to bring additional foods for your diet you will have access to a small refrigerator and small prep table in a workshop room near the main dining area.  We ask that you keep the area clean and that you limit your use to meal times only.  We do not offer non-meal, onsite packages due to the set-up of the facility and the event. If you have a special circumstance that needs attention contact us about it.

What about snacks?

Fresh fruit and other snacks will be available throughout the day and are included with your Hoopcamp registration. Chilled soft drinks along with energy and sport drinks will be available for purchase at the Hoopcamp Info Booth.

What about alcohol?

If you do choose to bring your own beverages to Hoopcamp, be sure to enjoy them in a plastic cup. We respectfully ask that you not carry any bottles around camp if you bring your own drinks.

What if I want to stay up late?

Late-night indoor Hoopjams with guest DJ music sets will start at 10pm until 4 am in the Main Lodge. The Indoor Lodge at Camp Campbell also has a separate big chill space with couches, chairs, pillows and a fireplace for late night chillaxing.

What if I want to get up early?

There will be a 7:00 am yoga session every morning in the Redwood Amphitheatre. Bring a towel or yoga mat with you to participate in these Yoga Sessions in the morning and afternoon.

Do you have work/trade opportunities?
