BIO: Yoga for Jem is a way of being, a transformational opening to awareness and deeper self realization. When Jem was introduced to yoga, it was very humbling and she was intrigued by the challenge and insight it provided. After dedicating years of daily practice and realizing this was a way of living, she decided to complete Yoga Alliance certification with Rusty Wells and with Mark Stephens in 2007. She currently teaches yoga at Peacebank yoga studio, teaches aerial silk at several studios, and is a fire dance performer. Her teachings offer a playful and challenging experience where students evolve, celebrate, and are flowing with purpose. Her intention is to share the healing medicine, awakening truth , and divine connection that the yoga practice offers. When Jem is not practicing yoga in San Francisco, teaching all over in the Bay Area or dancing with the community, you can find her spinning with a hula hoop or flying with her aerial silk.
In 2008 I began a private massage practice to aid and empower clients on their path toward healing. My work focuses on deep and fluid Swedish massage and incorporates the healing energy work of Polarity massage. Both are delicious to receive and powerfully effective. I work intuitively, listening moment by moment in order to offer just the right pressure, rhythm, speed, and modality to meet the body’s needs. Restore, relax, and rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit with a massage at HoopCamp!
I am here to love, learn, and move! My life is a patchwork of experiments and endeavors that engage me in loving the earth and its people, tending the soil, tending to people, sharing community, and evolving my mind, heart, and subsequent actions. I have a little homestead in Santa Cruz that keeps me full, challenged, and grounded. Being surrounded by so many folks in the flow arts community inspires and reminds me that everything is always in motion. When I’m feeling stuck, anxious, or out of control, hooping gets me moving and helps me let go and find freedom in the flow.Melinda Lundgren – firstname.lastname@example.org – 617-216-4001 – Santa Cruz, CA
I am very grateful to be returning to provide bodywork for HoopCamp 2013. Hoop dancing and body work are two of my great passions and I am delighted to be part of the magic that is Hoop Camp. I enjoy finding the flow & change of current in life especially in music, relationships, and nature. I was the lead massage therapist for 7 years for an international adventure travel company where I was able to travel the world providing massage: Patagonia, Africa, and Peru are some of the places I have been blessed to practice bodywork and spread the joy of hoop dancing.
I have a vibrant, busy massage practice in Lake Tahoe, Ca. where I pursue my love for the outdoors and raise my two beautiful daughters. The work that I provide is intuitive and nurturing yet deep and athletic to provide a whole body healing experience. Besides traditional sports massage, I have also studied Thai massage and acupressure. I incorporate many healing modalities in a session to provide deep relaxation, physical rejuvenation, and a deeper connection to the temple of your body. I look forward to the opportunity to provide you with a session that awakens mind, body, and spirit.
PRESENTER: Kim Daglen WORKSHOP: Afternoon Flow and Stretch
Balance out your day of heavy hooping with a yoga asana flow designed to reinvigorate and stretch the body and soul. This all-levels class will begin with a short pranayama (breathing exercise) to center us in our breath and bring the focus inward. We will then warm up the body and get the blood flowing with a few rounds of sun salutations (Surya Namaskar) and a series of standing postures. In the second half of class we will focus on stretching out soar muscles by opening up through the neck, shoulders, spine, hips, and hamstrings. During final relaxation you are encouraged to relax completely in shavasana (corpse pose) and effortlessly enter into a deep quietude and stillness. Hopefully, by the end of class, you will feel restored, rejuvenated, and ready to rock out your hoop for the rest of the weekend!
My deep gratitude for all the blessings that yoga and movement practices, such as hooping, have bestowed on my life is what inspires me to share this gift through teaching and participating in the community of meditative movers. I began practing yoga over 16 years ago and have been influenced by various schools of yoga such as Sivananda, Jivamukti, Bikram, Ashtanga, and Power Yoga. With a total of 800-hours of teacher training (500-hour Sivananda certified hatha instructor and 300-hour Jivamukti certified Vinyasa instructor) I bring a great deal knowledge and experience to my instruction. I discovered hooping only a few years ago at music festival in a hoop workshop taught by Nyeli! Dance + circular thingy = J In addition to yoga and hoop, I also enjoy teaching Spanish, unicycling, running, snowboarding, meditation, singing, painting, and traveling the world.
